We were delighted to have appeared on the DIY SOS’s BBC Children in Need Special – The Big Build recently, where we donated and built a pizza oven for St Michael’s Youth Project in Hull.
We were approached by the BBC’s flagship renovation programme to work on an exciting build, as St Michael’s needed to create a local adventure camping site. There was no hesitation and we got straight to work!
The project aims to attract more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Hull area, who don’t have much access to gardens or greenspaces, so they can enjoy more outdoor activities in a safe and welcoming space.
We donated a Milano 750 Round Base with Serving Side and our owner and creator, Nick Riley, joined by his bricklayer cousin, James Grela, headed up to Hull to build the oven for the worthy cause too.
Nick said:” St Michael’s is incredible and the work it does with under privileged children is exceptional. We were honoured to be able to play a small part in assisting them with their venture. The outdoor adventure camping site looks brilliant.”
The purpose-built adventure camping site was completed within 8 days with a number of the volunteers from the surrounding areas chipping in to help. They managed to make several different improvements, including:
- An outdoor kitchen
- A nature classroom
- Camping facilities
- A toilet
- Shower block
- Bird watching tower
- Bike trail
- Climbing ropes
- Landscaped fire pit area
- Pizza oven storage for bikes and camping equipment
We’re so thrilled we could be a part of such a meaningful project and hope it will benefit the young people of Hull for many years to come.
